Appearance

Appearance parameters control the color hierarchy and surface response of the grass. The same core color controls are available to Blade and Billboard unless explicitly marked otherwise.

Color hierarchy

  • baseColor controls the main lower/base color.
  • tipColor controls the main upper/tip color.
  • variationColor provides a third color for selected/random grass.
js
grassworks.setGrassParams({
  baseColor: "#29440f",
  tipColor: "#78b92a",
  variationColor: "#9b8a2e"
});

Surface response

sheen adds shininess toward the tip. aoIntensity darkens the base to add depth near the ground. These controls are useful for moving between dry/matte, fresh/glossy and deeper grounded looks without changing the geometry.

Color maps

When a colorMap is configured, the grass takes its color from the map by terrain position instead of the procedural baseColor and tipColor. baseColorDarkness controls how dark the base is relative to the map color: 1 keeps the full map color, 0 makes the base black. It has no effect without a colorMap. See the Color Maps Guide.

Texture color

useTextureColor is Billboard-only. When enabled, the atlas/texture supplies the visible color instead of the shader-produced grass colors. This is useful when the artwork inside your Grass Atlas already contains the desired plant colors.

For Blade grass, useBladeTexture overlays additional texture detail while the base, tip and variation colors remain active.
